What is Indoor Air Quality and why is it so important to address in our homes?
Indoor Air Quality refers to the composition of air within a residence or commercial building. Many new construction projects supply new homeowners with up to three years of volatile organic compounds from the chemicals inside treated woods, paints, new furniture, and other sources throughout the home. Florida is known for being a humid state, but many people don’t consider the fact that Florida is also a swamp marshland and how that dynamic affects their Air Handler and consequentially their Air Conditioning System as a whole. The amount and types of Particulate Matter, Microbial Substances, and Off Gases all contribute to the health of anyone and their pets within the space, and the overall longevity and service life of your Air Conditioning System. The RGF Reme-Halo is a state of the art whole home air purifier. It shines ultraviolet light as a catalyst on its titanium dioxide replaceable cartridge to create ionized hydrogen peroxide particles in the air. In essence, it actively cleans every surface within the space throughout the day while the Air Conditioning System is on. It makes particulate matter like dust, pollen, and dander cling together, so the return filter can effectively do its job of protecting the evaporator coil. It’s capable of eliminating hazardous compounds inside the air handler and ducts to prevent them from becoming ridden with mold and other microbial compounds over time because of the conditions in Florida. The ionized hydrogen peroxide it creates also works to destroy odors like pet dander, perfumes, cooking spices, and cleaning solvents. In addition, it’s been lab tested by multiple University Labs to disinfect up to 99% of viruses caused by coughs within 3 feet of a space where a Reme-Halo has been installed. The RGF Blu-QR Ultraviolet Light System is an effective solution to disinfect surfaces it shines on. Oftentimes, we recommend multiple lights to be installed because of the linear nature of light, in other words it cannot disinfect a surface it doesn’t shine on. The inside of an air handler has many large and small objects in it that creates shadows in hard to reach places and a technician needs to bear this in mind when recommending this solution. The ultraviolet light wires into the 24-volt electrical system, so it isn’t a high intensity bulb that can damage plastic air handling cabinets and drain pans. RGF recommends replacing each bulb once a year.
